Welcome Back
We hope you had an enjoyable Easter break. We are looking forward to another exciting term. This half term, we will busy getting ready for our sports day. We have an exciting curriculum across the school and we can't wait to get started for our summer term.
Music — Myths and Legends
This term in music, our theme is Myths and Legends. The children will be learning to read, clap and write rhythms. At the end of the unit they will have the chance to compose and perform their own music using rhythmic patterns.

History — Bideford Quay
This term we are doing local history. We will be exploring how Bideford Quay has changed from past to present. The children will look into the reasons behind the changes in the use of the quay.

Design & Technology — Food
This term in DT, we will learn where fruits and vegetables come from. They will also have the chance to taste fruits and vegetables, focusing on their appearance, taste and smell. At the end of the unit they will get to design and make their own food item.

Art & Design — Sculpture
In art this term we will be working in 3 Dimensions. The children will take a familiar object like a stick and use their imaginations to think about what it could become. They will use their sketchbooks to generate and test out ideas. Children will then transform their objects using a range of different materials.

Geography — Soufriere
This term in geography, we are continuing to make comparisons between the United Kingdom and Soufriere. The children will not be told where Soufriere is but instead they will have to be geography sleuths! Each lesson they will receive a clue and information so that they can eventually identify which country Soufriere is in. The children will make comparisons between the weather, the physical and human geography. Towards the end of the topic we will be having an immersive St Lucia day!

PE
This term in PE, we will be covering the following sports:

Religious Education — Faith Communities
This term in RE we will be exploring how loving others is important in lots of communities. The children will learn to say what some religious leaders said about loving others. The children will explore what they belong to and how people show they belong to each other or certain communities.
- Key vocabulary: belong, ceremony, christened, valuable, symbol
Science — Living Things and Their Habitats
This term we will be exploring the differences between things that are dead, alive or have never been alive. We will be identifying different habitats and explain why they are suited to the animals and plants that live there. We will be exploring the idea of simple food chains. We will be going to Rosemoor Gardens to deepen our understanding of habitats.

Homework
To support your child's progress in maths, one homework sheet will be sent home every week. The questions on the sheet will be linked to the children's previous learning. The more opportunities the children get to retrieve previously taught knowledge, the better able they are to apply the skills correctly!
Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) is a fantastic game for your child to practise their recall of key multiplication facts. Orca and Narwhal class will be having another competition to see which class has the most minutes played at the end of the term. The winning class will win a rock-star party!
Please continue to read with your child at home daily, whether they are on Read-Write-Inc or choosing their own books. Sharing stories helps children to develop fluency, strengthen comprehension and develop a life long love of reading. Every page that you read with your child makes a massive difference to their progress.
