Welcome Back
We would like to welcome you all to Year 6 and we hope you had a delightful Easter! Each term, you will receive information about all the wonderful things your child will be learning so that when you ask your child the age-old question - 'What did you do in school today?' You will already know the answer! We have such an exciting curriculum planned and we can't wait to get started.
Music — Film Music
Pupils will be exploring how different styles of music contribute to the feel of a film. They will participate in discussions, sharing their views and justifying their answers and identify different instruments which evoke different emotions.

History — World War
This term in history, we will be continuing learning about the fascinating topic of World War Two. After learning about many elements already, we will be focussing on:
- What was Bideford like in the war?
- Did everyone have a vital role?
- What was D-Day important?

D&T — Computer Aided Design
Pupils will develop computer-aided design (CAD) skills by using pattern making software to generate, modify, scale, save and print pattern pieces.

Art — Exploring Identity
In this pathway children are introduced to artists who explore their identity within their art. Pupils will explore how artists use various aspects of their identity, creating imagery which explores many different aspects within one image by using layers and juxtaposition.

Geography — Bideford High Street
This term in Geography, we will be continuing to study Bideford and its human geography. We will explore new lines of enquiry that came up during our fieldwork such as 'why are there so many vacant shops in the high-street?' We will then explore the key skills of map work.

PE
This term in PE, we will be covering the following exciting sports:
- Cricket — we will be improving our batting and fielding skills
RE — Why Do Some People Believe in God?
This unit explores what Christians believe about God and why. They will have the chance to think about their own ideas and listen to different opinions. The big question in this unit has many possible answers, and they will learn that people have different reasons for what they believe.

Science — Evolution and Animals Including Humans
This term, Year 6 will explore Evolution & Inheritance, learning how living things change over time and adapt to their environments. In Animals Including Humans, they will study the circulatory system, the role of the heart and lungs, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Homework
To support your child with their learning in year 6, they will receive a maths sheet to complete each week.
They also are expected to read at home each day for at least 10 minutes either independently or with an adult.
Additionally, we may send home individualized work to support specific areas to target.
