Welcome to Autumn 1

Welcome to reception. We look forward to an exciting half term with all of you. Below are the important dates for the first half term which includes information about upcoming information meetings and exciting activities such as the Halloween disco! We have also included information about our favourite five books which we will be reading in class and will be featured in our book corner. Looking forward to seeing you all. Miss Hewitt.

Important Dates

  • Reception baseline assessment — Week beginning 7th September- During the first six weeks of Reception, all children will take part in the statutory Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). This is a short, practical and interactive assessment carried out one-to-one with a familiar adult, looking at early language, communication, literacy and maths skills. It is not a test that children can pass or fail, and there is nothing you need to practise or prepare at home.
  • Welcome back to school! — Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! We look forward to welcoming everyone back. School starts at 8:40am.
  • Read Write Inc information meeting — Week beginning 21st October- there will be an opportunity for you to attend Read Write Inc (RWI) information meetings to give you a better understanding of our phonics programme. We will have sign up sheets on the door so you can see which days/times the meetings will be on. It will be a great way to understand the start of your child's reading journey.
  • After school clubs to begin. — After school clubs begin this week.
  • Appledore book festival — On Thursday 1st October we are being visited by Layn Marlow from the Appledore book festival. The children will get to take part in an interactive session with the author- looking at her book and completing a fun art activity!
  • KS2 Halloween Discos — Save the date for our KS2 Halloween Disco! More information will be sent out closer to the event.
  • KS1 Halloween Discos — Save the date for our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Halloween Disco! More information will be sent out closer to the event.
  • Science Day — A whole-school day of exciting science activities, investigations and hands-on learning for every year group.

PE Information

PE Days: Thursday

Reception do not require a PE kit. We will have PE in the hall on Thursday mornings. Earrings will be covered and hair should be tied up.
