Welcome Back

We hope you had an enjoyable Easter break. We are looking forward to another exciting term. This half term, we will busy getting ready for our sports day and preparing for our art exhibition. We have an exciting curriculum across the school and we can't wait to get started for our summer term.

Music — Timbre and Rhythmic Patterns

This term in Music, our project will be exploring timbre and rhythmic patterns. The children will be learning about a range of different rhythmic patterns as well as exploring timbre. We will be exploring this through our voices and on different instruments.

  • Key Vocabulary: pulse, rhythm, timbre, texture, tempo, pitch, patterns

History — Amelia Earhart

This term in history, we will be learning about Amelia Earhart and why she was a significant explorer. We will be looking at her voyages and how this made her an important explorer.

  • Who are explorers? What do they need?
  • How did Amelia become a pilot?
  • Why was she so famous?
  • Why was Amelia Earhart a significant explorer?
  • Key Vocabulary: explorer, travel, significant, Atlantic Ocean, gender

D&T — Food

This term in D&T we will be learning about food and we will be making our own fruit salad as our project. We will get to try new fruit and vegetables and learn how to cut them safely.

  • Key Vocabulary: Healthy, unhealthy, fruit, vegetable, salad, nutrients

Art — Playful Making

In Art this term, we will be generating ideas around playful making and learning how art that is 3d is often called sculpture. We will then use this new knowledge to create 3d sea creatures.

Geography — What Do I Need for My Holiday?

This term in Geography, we will be looking at seasonal differences and climate difference around the world.

  • Where is the equator?
  • Does every country have four seasons?
  • What's the climate like?
  • Key Vocabulary: equator, north pole, south pole, country, river

PE

This term in PE, we will be covering the following sports to develop our strength, flexibility and team work skills:

  • Summer 1: Athletics and gymnastics
  • Clownfish Class: We will be swimming from Friday 22nd May. Please make sure children come to school wearing their swimming costume.

RE — Community

This term in RE we will be learning about faiths and community.

  • What does it mean to belong to a faith community?
  • Key Vocabulary: Community, faith, baptism, wedding, parable

Science — Plants and Animals Including Humans

Our first topic will be animals including humans. They will learn about the fascinating science behind different animal categories and their diets. Our second topic will be plants and seasonal changes. They will learn about the fascinating science behind how plants grow and how our seasons change.

  • What are the categories of animals?
  • How do their diets differ?
  • What features do they have?
  • Key Vocabulary: mammal, reptile, amphibian, fish, bird, carnivore, herbivore, omnivore
  • What are the features of summer?
  • How does the weather change in summer?
  • What features can we spot in the forest?
  • Key Vocabulary: summer, germinate, bulb, seed, bloom

Trips

We will be visiting Rosemoor on Wednesday 17th June, focusing on science and art. To be able to go, we do rely on volunteers to join us. If you are able and willing, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Homework

To support your child with their RWI and maths fluency we will be sending QR codes and maths sheets home every Friday.

We would love for you to read with your child every day. This could be sharing a book together, listening to your child read or reading to your child. We would like reading at home to be an enjoyable and shared experience.
