We hope you have enjoyed your Easter break and we welcome back all of the children to year 4. This term we are going to be continuing with our subject topics and have lots more fun and engaging visits and visitors planned.
Music — Percussion
This term in music, our project will be exploring how to layer different rhythms and instruments to create texture to a piece of music.

History — Egypt and Roman Comparison
This term in history, we will be comparing the fascinating eras of Ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire:
- Who had the biggest impact on how we live today?
- How did the two civilisations merge?

D&T — Electrical Systems
This term in D&T we will be using our knowledge of circuits to design and make our own working lantern. Children will use their science knowledge to make a working circuit.

Art — Exploring Pattern
In Art this term, we will be exploring patterns by looking at the artwork of Sol Lewitt. We will explore lots of different ways of making patterns, using collage and tessellation.
Geography — Rivers
This term in Geography, we will be comparing the River Elorn in France with the River Torridge.
- How are the River Elorn and the River Torridge similar?
- What are the physical characteristics of the two rivers?

PE
This term in PE, we will be covering the following sports:

RE — Multi-Cultural
This term in RE, we will be looking at how and why people celebrate significant events in life. Children will have the change to explore and compare different cultures.

Science — Living Things and Their Habitats and Electricity
This term in Science, children will learn how to group living things and how changes to their habitats can pose risks to species. We will be going on an exciting walk along our nature corridor to collect different species living in our area. Our second topic will be electricity. Children will learn how to create a basic circuit, understand the function of a switch and investigate which materials are conductors and insulators.

Computing
We know how important it is for our children to be IT literate. This term in computing we will be:

Homework
Each week your child will receive a homework sheet: 10 spellings, a short reading extract with 3 questions and 6 maths questions.
We would love for you to read with your child every day. This could be sharing a book together, listening to your child read or reading to your child. We would like reading at home to be an enjoyable and shared experience.
