Welcome to Autumn 1

We hope you had a wonderful and restful summer break. We are excited for another term filled with enriching opportunities for your children to enjoy and enhance their learning.

Important Dates

  • Welcome back to school! — Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! We look forward to welcoming everyone back. School starts at 8:40am.
  • After school clubs to begin. — After school clubs begin this week.
  • Appledore Book Festival - Kieran Larwood visit. — Kieran Larwood will be visiting our classes for an engaging session linked to his incredible book series Podkin One-Ear.
  • Burton Art Gallery — Children will explore the different mediums that artists use to create their art and use objects in the gallery to practice their still life sketching.
  • Geography Fieldwork — This week, we will be exploring the woodland biome in our local area. Please ensure the children have suitable footwear (wellies or trainers and a raincoat) for the week. These can be left in school to allow us to work around the weather.
  • Poetry performance to parents — Year 4 would like to invite you to come in and watch our performance of two poems; Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and Don't by Michael Rosen. Please arrive at reception for 3pm.
  • Egyptian Day — An exciting day where the children will be immersed in Ancient Egyptian history. They will learn the steps of mummification; uncover artefacts from the Ancient Egyptian tombs and make their very own cartouche to take home. To truly immerse themselves, we invite the children to come in dressed up as an Egyptian for the day.
  • KS2 Halloween Discos — Save the date for our KS2 Halloween Disco! More information will be sent out closer to the event.
  • KS1 Halloween Discos — Save the date for our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Halloween Disco! More information will be sent out closer to the event.
  • Science Day — A whole-school day of exciting science activities, investigations and hands-on learning for every year group.

The Legend of Podkin One-Ear by Kieran Larwood

This is the first in a series by Kieran Larwood (who is visiting the children this term). A thrilling adventure story about Podkin, who will one day be responsible for protecting his warren against the Gorm. That day comes sooner than he thinks when the Gorm go on a rampage and destroy his home. He must do everything he can to protect his family.

PE Information

PE Days: Wednesday and Thursday and Friday

Please ensure children have their full PE kits in everyday. If your child is swimming, they will need: towel, swimming hat, goggles (optional) and underwear. Children should come to school with their swimwear on underneath their uniform.

Teacher Messages

The Pink Fairy Crab class will have swimming on Fridays, from September 18th to October 23rd.

This term, both classes will also be learning tennis and gymnastics.
